Most bots visiting this site are not welcome. They will be banned unless they are known or can show a positive reason for visiting.
Any action that is clearly negative, such as attempting to access site coding, or not having a name or an announced purpose, or logging in, registering, spamming, attempting a SQL injection will be reason for near-instant permanent banning, blacklisting and being reported to “bad bot” databases – or even worse- being black holed!
This is addition to IP addresses that blatantly disregard our robots.txt requirements. They, in effect, automatically self-blacklist.

As long as I’ve been making websites (since 1996) and running multiple websites seriously (since 2001) I’ve noticed higher and higher traffic rates on my sites: lots of traffic from bots and other unusual web auto-surfers that serve no apparent purpose except to use bandwidth.
Since bandwidth is a commodity that I pay for, I view such bots as thieves or pirates and will do whatever I can to limit their visits, unless I invite them into my site for the purpose of indexing it.

Right now the only bots that I have accepted are two indexers. They are Bing.com and DuckDuckGo.com*.
The bans include any bot that does not have a title or a recognized IP address or comes via an referrer site with a poor reputation. Also, most AWS bots have appeared that have no defined purpose or browser, those are big signals about the non-transparency of AWS and a good reason to ban any bot using AWS hosting.
In addition, all bots reported to be from Russia and China are automatically banned since their countries have such a bad reputation for maliciousness. All bots from there are double-banned as they are found.
I hope other site owners and webmasters agree. I am receptive to honest feedback.

Those on the list do not include those IP addresses that are auto-blocked by SpamCop and Project HoneyPot and other software aids installed that block more than 4000 known malicious bots. You think the Web is honest?
Yes, I am blocking entire ranges of IP addresses that I find to appear to be part of a Botnet or are loosely affiliated with a bot. I think I am in good company since Project Honeypot has identified 951,595 bad web hosts, 860,551 harvesters, 374,796 search engines, 103,488,514 spam servers, 1,255,414 comment spammers, 27,655,983 dictionary attackers and 32,170 Robot.txt rule breakers as of March 28 2019., starting in 2004.
